LACTEL Project

LACTEL is a novel type of Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) That being tested in Lake Lémon (Geneva lake) in Lausanne.

  • Check the possibility of enhancing the e-/e+ flux in TeV energy range
  • Uses Modular design.
  • The first prototype would be a two layers WCDA.
LeXPLORE platform in Lausanne is hosting the first LACTEL module for functional tests.

LACTEL detector prototype:

  1. A Module is composed of 2 light tight Elementary Cells (ECs) one on the top of the other.
  2. Each water tank houses one 10” Optical Module (from ANTARES)
  3. The Module is powered by two solar panels fixed on the top module structure
  4. A dedicated suitcase contains all electronics is fixed just bellow the solar panels.
  5. WRS will synchronize the modules.
